The labia majora comes in all shapes and sizes. Some women may notice changes in the appearance of their labia majora as they age or due to pregnancy and childbirth.

If you are not happy with the appearance of your labia majora, then it may be possible to improve its size and/or shape with a labia majora lift. Dr. Ravinder Jarial is a skilled plastic surgeon with extensive training and experience performing labia majora lifts. Here, he discusses the labia majora lift procedure.

What Is the Labia Majora?

The labia majora are fleshy folds of tissue that are part of the vulva. They are the noticeable lips surrounding the vaginal opening. The vulva includes the vaginal opening, the labia majora (outer lips), the labia minora (inner lips), and the clitoris.

What Is Labia Majora Lift?

Labia majora lift is a new surgical procedure created by renowned genital surgeon Dr. Michael Goodman. Dr. Jarial trained extensively under Dr. Goodman. During the procedure, the surgeon carefully removes a chevron-shaped portion of skin from the labia. This is done on both sides to improve the appearance of the labia majora. The incision is typically closed with sutures.

The removal of a small portion of skin can lift up the remaining labial skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance. It can also make the skin appear tighter with less sagginess.

Who Is an Ideal Patient for Labia Majora Lift?

Only you and your doctor can decide if a procedure is right for you. Prior to any cosmetic surgical procedure, your doctor should meet with you to discuss the procedure and your expectations.

The ideal patient is in good physical health and has a clear understanding of their goals and the potential results of their desired surgery. They most likely want to improve the appearance of their labia majora or want to reduce the amount of excess skin around the vaginal opening. This can be for comfort reasons or purely cosmetic reasons.

What Does the Labia Majora Look Like After the Procedure?

Initially following the labia majora procedure, a patient should expect to see swelling and bruising. As the labia majora heals, the swelling and bruising should subside.

Once the labia majora has fully healed, the loose skin should be gone and the appearance of the labia majora should be improved.
